Who Are We

Our Vision

The Fort Wayne URCNA Church Plant is a collaborative effort driven by the heartfelt desire of several families in Fort Wayne to bring the rich Reformed tradition of the URCNA to our city. Our vision is to create a welcoming and spiritually nourishing environment where individuals and families can worship God, study His Word, and serve our community together.

Our Support

Indy Reformed Church

We are blessed to have the support of a URCNA congregation in Indianapolis, which is guiding and assisting us in this church planting initiative. The elders of the Indianapolis church have graciously offered to periodically come to Fort Wayne to meet with the local families. Their experience and leadership are invaluable to us as we embark on this journey.

Historic Roots of the URC

The United Reformed Churches in North America (URCNA) trace their origins back to the Reformation, a pivotal movement in the 16th century that sought to return to the foundational teachings of Scripture. The URCNA was formally established in 1996, as a federation of churches committed to the Reformed faith as articulated in the Three Forms of Unity: the Belgic Confession, the Heidelberg Catechism, and the Canons of Dort.

Heidelberg Catechism

Composed in 1563 by Zacharias Ursinus and Caspar Olevianus, this catechism is presented in a question-and-answer format to teach the core doctrines of the Reformed faith in a clear and accessible way. It is divided into three parts: misery, deliverance, and gratitude, which reflect the structure of the Apostle’s Creed, the Ten Commandments, and the Lord’s Prayer. The Heidelberg Catechism is widely revered for its warmth and pastoral tone.

Belgic Confession

Written in 1561 by Guido de Brès, this confession was designed to articulate the Reformed faith clearly and systematically. It was a response to the persecution faced by Reformed Christians and sought to distinguish their beliefs from those of Roman Catholicism and other groups. The Belgic Confession covers a wide range of doctrines, including the nature of God, the authority of Scripture, the fall of man, salvation, the church, and the sacraments.

Canons of Dort

Drafted during the Synod of Dort in 1618-1619, these canons were written in response to the rise of Arminianism, which challenged core tenants of the Christian bible. The Canons of Dort provide a detailed exposition of the Five Points of Calvinism: total depravity, unconditional election, limited atonement, irresistible grace, and the perseverance of the saints. These points emphasize God’s sovereignty in salvation and the assurance of His grace.
